Should student athletes be "paid to play" in college?
NCAA Schools and Student Athlete Pay

How much of an issue is distracted driving among your peer group?

  1. Article 1: Even though colleges probably can afford to pay athletes for their skills, I do not believe it is necessary. Though it would be a great thing to be paid, it would create an imbalance in schools. Not just all students participate in NCAA sports, and I believe there will be some controversy in that. Just because some sport teams are bigger than others doesn't mean they should get paid. This can also cause problems with how much they may pay their athletes.

Article 2: Distracted driving is VERYYYY common among my peer group. The problem with mine is that everything is looked at as a joke and that "this could never happen to me" mentality. Cell phones are a big one. I know the feeling of hearing your phone buzz and having the biggest urge to check it, some people feel that it can't wait. Distracted driving is a big issue.

  2. Article 1: I don't think schools should pay their student athletes for their work. These students are there to work hard so they can get to become a professional and then get paid. Even though if they were to get paid as students it won't be as much as being a professional, I believe it would take away the value of becoming a professional. Also, some schools can't afford to pay all their players like other schools. it will create an imbalance in the whole system.

Article 2: Distracted driving is a very scary common issue now-a-days. if you're a passenger in a car and you see the driver using their phone, no matter who it is, don't be afraid to tell them to get off it. A lot can happen in that one second when you look down at your phone. Just like the article said, " far too many Americans and especially young people, die or are injured in distraction-related crashes.”

  3. Article 1: i don't think colleges should pay athletes. Now the idea of getting paid to do a sport sounds great, who wouldn't want to get paid for that. Then again, it's not necessary. Students should play a sport and enjoy what they are doing and be motivated to do what they love rather than be motivated to do something because the money they earn in the end. Students shouldn't play a sport for the money, the should play it for the love of the sport.

Article 2: Distracted Driving is very big issue today. Teenagers today can't find the time of day to not check their phone, especially when they're driving. As Alexis said, teenagers have the mentality of "this could never happen to me", or i can do anything sort of thinking, not thinking twice about the consequences. Every teenager, even myself, always have to check our phones for whatever reason, but we need to learn about the safety of ourselves and of others when we think about the choices we're about to make.
